My handmade clothing is made from repurposed fabric that used to be duvet covers, bed sheets, pillowcases, curtains and more! The EPA estimates that the U.S. alone generates 25 billion pounds of textiles per year, and 85% of that isn't recycled, and therefore ends up in landfills. That's 21 Billion pounds of textiles in landfills per year! By purchasing products made from second hand textiles you are helping reduce textile waste and save energy that would be used to recycle goods.
My handmade jewelry is made primarily from second hand trinkets and toys, which would otherwise be discarded, only adding to pollution in the environment. The majority of my jewelry features plastic charms, which are not only lightweight; they’re durable too! It’s estimated that about 400 million tons of plastic are produced each year, and unfortunately less than 9% is recycled. Between 75-199 million tons of that are currently in our oceans which is bad for humans and animals alike. By purchasing products from second hand plastics you’re helping safe the environment while looking fun!
Pink Cotton Co. is a brand focusing on creating fun content for fun people. Curated by Sarah Omer, Pink Cotton Co. combines her passions for creating art, sustainability through upcycling, and making people smile. The goal is to create vibrant goods with all humans in mind.
Sarah maintains a sustainable lifestyle and enjoys a slow-paced life filled with animals and plants. Her personal style features an eclectic mix of natural materials - with accents of brightly colored textiles. She loves the contrast of a structured suit paired with a 90’s tee and vintage upcycled boots. When designing pieces for Pink Cotton Co., Sarah loves the juxtaposition of childhood characters with mature silhouettes. Her designs feature elements of fun combined with the wearability of preloved vintage materials. Sarah believes that growing older doesn’t mean your style has to grow dull.
Even before the start Pink Cotton Co., Sarah could be found strolling the isles of local thrift stores, as well as pulling off the side of the road for garage sales and bulk trash pickup days. Growing up with a love for the outdoors meant Sarah was often in her backyard tending to her family’s vegetable garden, climbing trees, and digging for worms to feed to her chickens.
Sarah loves spending the warmer months exploring flea markets for second hand goods, and the colder months with a pair of knitting needles and yarn in hand. She is an artist who works in various art forms including painting, collage, embroidery, sewing, and photography. Preferring to work with her hands, Sarah uses as many tangible materials as possible in her work. Sarah is best described as an artist, crafter, gardener, and collector.
